Youth and culture in Montenegro
A survey by the Association of Young Artists of Montenegro
- 200 respondents
- aged 15–35
- results published 2022
50.5% of young people aged 15 to 35 in Montenegro have never been to a classical music concert.
What the survey shows
The survey rates how well Montenegrin cultural and educational institutions bring young people into cultural life.
Music is in the weakest position: 50.5% of young people have never been to a classical music concert, well behind drama and the visual arts.
Young people name the poor quality of arts education in schools as the key problem.
To improve the relationship between culture and young people, they put a systemic reform of culture by the public administration first, followed by more programmes run by young artists.
For culture to reach its audience, the average age of arts audiences has to come down, systematically and together with schools and universities.
